"I'd rather be doing hot yoga"

I've joked with my teammates a couple of times; mostly when I have to sit out from running cause it's too hard on my back, that I should have a bumper sticker on my ass that says "I'd rather be doing Hot Yoga." It's true. After my 60 day challenge, nothing seems as satisfying, healthy, challenging (well, relatively - I can't run, that's a challenge), or membership worthy as hot yoga. I haven't had the time recently to devote though, and haven't been able to commit to my regular work/study shifts at Yoga Groove (Bikram) to keep my membership. But I've needed the yoga, so I signed up for a trial membership at Sunstone Yoga with my teammate Rice Rocket (yes, she is as fast as one).

Sunstone Yoga utilizes a "hot" room, but is not "Bikram" yoga, which is usually what I refer to when talking about "hot yoga". Bikram, as I have explained in the blog before, is a set 26 postures, performed in the same series, in 105 degree heat, 50% humidity, and for 90 minutes. Sunstone has 5 different class offerings (Fire, Earth, Wood, Metal, and Water), done in heated rooms. I have done two of the five thus far; Wood and Earth. The wood class room was not as hot as I am used to, I just didn't sweat as much, and it was very core-strength oriented. It was different than yoga I am used to, but know it was good for me and boy my abs were sore so something was working. Earth class was a bit hotter (I also wore more clothing this time, probably a mistake), and class went a million poses per minute (or at least it seemed that way). It is a bit of a adjustment after my Bikram challenge, but regardless I am happy to be back in a hot yoga room.

Afterwards I move on to roller derby practice and it has felt great to get back on skates and hitting people! Rarrrr. hehe
